We have a wealth of medical services
that provide World Class treatment for almost any wellness treatment, health problem or serious medical treatment.
Most services are available in either Sattler (5 miles distant) New Braunfels (16 miles distant) with Christus Santa Rosa
Hospital and a new Baptist hospital scheduled to open in 2012 or San Marcos with the Central Texas Medical Center Hospital (20
miles from our front entrance). This includes many specialties. A new State of the Art cancer treatment center
opened in New Braunfels in June, 2010.
In addition, The San Antonio Stone Oak Medical district with a multitude of specialty doctors and several hospital is 30-45 minutes away depending on traffic. San Antonio offers a second large medical district which also includes numerous specialty doctors and the Audie Murphy VA Hospital. Brook Army Medical Center (BAMC) is also located in San Antonio. Wilfred Hall Air Force Medical Center is also available; however it is scheduled to close when BAMC completes is multi-billion dollar expansion and upgrade. Austin, 45 miles in the other direction also offers a panacea of medical services including specialty doctors and numerous hospitals. Both San Antonio and Austin have Medical Universities so medical services benefit from those teaching hospitals as well. Doctors in New Braunfels tend to refer patients to specialists in San Antonio while doctors in San Marcos tend to refer to Austin. AirLifeAngel Air Ambulance provides primary medical evacuation for our community in conjunction with our local EMS. They are the ones called when acute medical conditions dictate immediate transport to area trauma centers and critical medical care units. They have an air unit based in New Braunfels, 16 miles from our front door so they can respond immediately when called. Air Ambulance service is expensive but we have partnered with them and for a cost of $10.00 per year, per family, the service is free to our residents that have availed themselves of this low cost insurance. A sample of doctors in Austin. Again there are hundreds if not thousands. For military retirees there is
a VA clinic in New Braunfels and the Audie Murphy VA Medical Center in San Antonio. There is also a VA hospital in Kerrville
along with a VA nursing home for disabled veterans.
Brook Army Medical Center is currently undergoing an extensive rehabilitation and expansion. Fort Sam Houston, Lackland AFB and Randolph AFB all operate clinics and pharmacies where prescriptions may be filled for authorized retired and disabled military personnel. These three large military posts are all located in San Antonio. |
